David Downie is the founder of AustralianBeers.com and the Australian contributor to the international beer bible 1001 Beers You Must Drink Before You Die. He was profiled the book Three Sheets to the Wind by leading UK beer expert Pete Brown. David has appeared on Sky News and has been quoted by publications including the Australian Financial Review, Business Review Weekly and the Sydney Morning Herald as an expert in law, children’s books, beer and Australian culture. This book will open your eyes to the benefits of having a break from alcohol.

If you have ever considered having a break from the demon drink or wondered what it may be like this is the book for you. I found myself agreeing with the author on many occasions about how entrenched alcohol has become in our society but the fact that most people accept it as the norm.

As someone who has had a break from the booze for an extended period (10 months) I can honestly say that this book has inspired me to have another break. As David mentions in the book the clarity that you gain not to mention the health benefits are well worth it.

This book is not designed as a how to type book however it provides an insight as to how wonderful and fulfilling life can be once you give your body the opportunity to function without alcohol.

I also really like the idea of the title. "Between Drinks". I think that by adopting this mindset you are much more likely to succeed staying alcohol free than when I gave up last time saying that "I would never drink again". When you tell yourself you can't have something you want it even more.

I wont give too much away but if David can have a break off the bottle for a while considering his career and also his position in society as a proclaimed beer writer I think anyone can do it.

I take my hat off to you David! I give this book the highest rating possible at 5 stars.

To sum up, this book could quite possibly change your life! That is if you are ready for it. There is a whole new world on "the other side" that most people will never ever see.

Quick read and great book if you are considering (or have) stopped or cutting back drinking. I read during beginning of last year's new year resolutions to stop binge drinking. Only on 6 special occasions (Oktoberfest, Las Vegas, holidays...) days did I have more than 2 drinks. I definitely felt more clearheaded and better mentally/physically. Have shared/recommended book to multiple friends who also enjoyed reading it. Life is now more than just drinking at the bar.

Funny, not preachy, and very inspiring

This was not at all what I expected, and much, much better. Downie doesn't draw the line between alcoholic and sober. For him, it's Drinker vs. Clear Thinker, and that's a powerful distinction for people who want to change their habits but spend too much time berating themselves. His tone is completely encouraging and inviting. A quick, insightful, worthwhile read.

A thorough examination of the late pope's corpus reveals a definite respect for Aquinas even as he was intrigued by the consciousness-based school of phenomenology. In his many defenses of Humanae Vitae, John Paul II argued that since the human body represents the person to the world, the body speaks a certain language and has an inherent spousal meaning. While John Paul II did not offer any positive reference to Aquinas in his Theology of the Body catecheses, he did in other works. Finally, this study explores Aquinas's mature work, comparing and contrasting it with John Paul II's, to conclude that the Angelic Doctor's metaphysical anthropology provided the foundation for John Paul II's notion of the spousal meaning of the body, which is a seminal concept articulated in the Theology of the Body catecheses.

While there has been much scholarly study on the philosophy of Pope John Paul II, and of his indebtedness to Aquinas's thought, this is the first book to connect The Theology of the Body with Thomistic ideas.

I love Fr. Petri's style of writing! He goes very in depth on the Theological development behind TOB, and yet keeps it at a readable level. I love this book, and I think it will set the stage for a better understanding of TOB within the Catholic theological tradition.

Mr. Chips, make way for a Delderfield masterpiece

I had just returned to college after spending three years in England in the Air Force when I happened upon this gem. Although I generally describe it to friends as "like Mr. Chips", this book is actually much better than it's better known predecessor. I first read this book over 20 years ago, and have regularly revisited it, like an old friend, every other year or so. From this book, I went on to try all of Delderfield's other works and he has become, by far, my favorite author. Delderfield's sweeping historical novels offer wonderful glimpses into the social turmoil that engulfed England from the turn of the century on. This book would be an excellent introduction to Delderfield for any reader, and I would highly recommend it - in fact, I may just start reading it again today!

I loved this book! From the first page to the last I was unable to put it down. I have read it several times since and have always been able to find something new. It is a great way to introduce a whole area that many people may not be familiar with. I recommend this book and in fact, all of Delderfields books, to anyone who wishes to investigate a whole new world.

It's getting me by

The words - basic and easy to read DO NOT come to mind when I review this text - as some others have stated. This class is very difficult. There are a lot of terms to remember. I am only half way through the course and I do not feel like I am learning anything from this text. That being said, my course is 7 weeks. It is a lot harder to get out of the material what you want to when you need to speed through it to finish your final project.

I rented this book for an Introductory Research class. While it's a fairly dry read, it will teach you everything you need to know about research methods, design types, the scientific method, ethics, and how to properly conduct an experiment.

I really like the writing style

For a textbook, there is a bit of humor. Each chapter stands on its own so important information is defined again in other chapters as it relates to the new chapter. Its a great reference if you need to write a research paper. Also, it has examples of APA pages/sections along with the information that should be included in each section.
