Becky Tarver Chase is an experienced English instructor who has taught all subject areas including reading, writing, grammar, communication skills, and test preparation. She has worked at universities and in private programs in the United States, Mexico, and Thailand. Her current focus is on creating effective language-learning materials, and she is one of the authors of the World English, Reading Explorer, Close-Up, and Pathways series from National Geographic Learning.

Kristin Johannsen held an MA in Applied English Linguistics from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. She had extensive experience teaching English in Japan, the United Arab Emirates, South Korea, France, and the United States. She has presented her ideas on global issues at multiple conferences around the world and was a published author. She spoke several languages including French, German, Spanish, Norwegian, and Korean.

Don't buy a used book because we can't use.

I don't recommend nobody to buy a "used book" because each book has a code that we have to use to study on line. I bought a used book and I didn't know about this code, so I got this book but I can't use. Now, I have to buy another one.

great English textbook!

Great textbook, beautiful photography, full of rich cultural information. This textbook is fascinating even for a native English speaker to read. Each unit introduces the reader to tons of multicultural information, while at the same time leading students to discuss complex issues. The first one is about different gender roles around the world; energy efficiency and the preservation of species are brought out later. This textbook was just being released last fall, and lower levels were said to be scheduled for release in the spring of 2012.

I dont know how long it took JM to put this book together but Id liken him to the Lance Armstrong of the keyboard. Its such a cheap book $ wise yet has the same punch as 1000$ programmes on positive attitude.

Igniting Your Life lays out gobs of truth (very safe for human consumption) especially needed in a society of celebrity worshiping, booze guzzling, boob toobers. This book expertly weaves a through line of quotes taken from many sources and intelligently ties them all together into a comprehensive and most importantly workable philosophy towards living. The book is not a "12 steps to" or "20 steps to" or gimmicky fake n bake program with the guy in his suit, arms crossed, huge permasmile on his face. that says "I'm always this happy! Really..." This book as you read opens up a doorway into another way of experiencing life. It explores. It nourishes. It inspires you to listen to the best of what it is that is inside you. Any sensitive person (and by that I don't mean a cry baby.) who has endeavored to do any serious thinking about life will laugh at seeing themselves in the writing in its pages. It has something very important to share with you. (And not in a creepy, door to door, Mormon way)

The messages and content of this book have inspired my life in more ways than one. I pick it up when I'm feeling like there is no hope or when I need some kind of guidance. I thumb through the pages and stop at which ever feels right and, each time it provides me with some kind of knowledge or a quote that gives me direction or wisdom to move forward with enthusiasm and gratitude. This book was exactly what I needed. I loved everything about this story from page one to the very end. It's a short sexy read...and I loved it.
Cole is a trauma doctor and Bailey is a nurse. Cole doesn't like to mix work with pleasure or pleasure with work. But when Bailey catches his eye, when she comes in as one of his patients. He immediately can't stop thinking about her and it causes his perfect OCD life to go into disarray.
The attraction that they have for one another is undeniable and they can't stop it from happening. As much as he tries, he can't seem to resist the girl with all the different colored chucks.
I really loved this story. It was sexy, fun, and got right down to the point. I look forward to reading the next in the series.

I enjoyed this novella.

It was hella sexy, sweet and funny.

And of course, who wouldn't want to read a book about a sexy Doctor?
Pressure had me wishing I was the one that tripped and cut my leg only to be stitched up by a good looking Doctor like Cole. The only thing I had trouble with was how Cole and Bailey's relationship developed, it felt really rushed on some parts, I wanted things between them to be dragged out a bit.

I'm looking forward to the next installment and more of Dr. Larkin.

This was my first book by Lillian Bryant and believe me when I tell you I'm waiting for more books - especially from the Valley Hospital series!!!

We meet Bailey, a girl fresh out of medical school celebrating her college victory before starting as an RN. While out with her friends she stumbles on some broken glass and slices her upper thigh open. After heading to the ER she is brought face-to-face with Dr. Cole Larkin. Cole is a 32 year old doctor who lives a very orderly life - everything has it's place and time, nothing disrupts his world - that is until Bailey enters it. He immediately can't fight the pull towards her and after he's done suturing up her cut, he practically holds his breath until she comes back to have them removed. When she comes back the deep desire in both of them unleashes and there's no turning back. Will Cole be able to let Bailey disrupt his life? Will Bailey finally let a man into her life for more than 2 or 3 dates?

I cannot wait to read what happens in book two ... I literally read this book in one day - started it on my lunch break and then finished it before bed. You can't stop reading, you can't stop yourself from falling in love with Cole and Bailey. Never thought I'd be a fan of hospital romance but holy hell, Lillian made me one! Aahh! Such a good book!! Love it!!

About the Author
William B. Cash received his Ph.D. from Purdue University in 1972. He is currently an Associate Professor of Communication at National-Louis University in Evanston, Illinois.

Charles J. Stewart is the former Margaret Church Distinguished Professor of Communication at Purdue University where he taught from 1961 to 2009. He taught undergraduate courses in interviewing and persuasion and graduate courses in such areas as persuasion and social movements, apologetic rhetoric, and extremist rhetoric on the Internet. He received the Charles B. Murphy Award for Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching from Purdue University and the Donald H. Ecroyd Award for outstanding Teaching in Higher Education from the National Communication Association. He has written articles, chapters, and books on interviewing, persuasion, and social movements. He has been a consultant with organizations such as the Internal Revenue Service, the American Electric Power Company, Libby Foods, the Indiana University School of Dentistry, and the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters. He is currently a Court Appointed Special Advocate for children (CASA).

Clear & concise textbook

This book is required reading for me this semester. This is ONE OF THE BEST textbooks I have ever been assigned to read! All the vocabulary terms are either in bold or italicized text; concise explanations are given of key concepts; etc.

This is one text that is NOT a chore to read. :-) And it's interesting too!!

wow, what a terribly written book - sorry authors you did not do your job!

If I could have given this book zero stars, I would have. Listen, the only reason I am reading this book is because the school is using it as material to teach the class. This book has some good information. I'm not saying the whole book is bad or worthless. I am just saying that if I were to judge this book solely on its ability to organize content, I would have to say that it is downright terrible. This book literally "spliced" together phrases from over 100 other sources. Totally insignificant phrases are quoted from other sources just for the sake of quoting them.

Another problem is that they take information and refine it down to such a granular extent that it is truly torture to read it. Let me give you an analogy as to what I am saying. Say you want to eat a cookie. Sounds good right? Take that delicious cookie and crumble it up until it is nothing but a pile of crumbs. Then lick your finger and touch the crumbs. Now eat those crumbs. Not very satisfying, but not too terrible. Now do that for the whole cookie. I dare you to do that to a cookie and get through the whole thing without throwing out a handful of crumbs.

Then another problem is they fill the book with statements that either make no sense or are so commonplace that it is just a waste of time to read them. I'll give you one example straight out of the book. Chapter 12 page 378 under the heading Encourage Interaction says "Listen with comprehension so that you understand what the patient is saying and implying." Seriously. I am paying for an author to tell me to listen with comprehension so that I can understand them. The book is filled with these little "gems" of information.

I could go on and on, but I think you get the point. Most people who buy this book are doing so because they have to (i.e., required reading for a class). There is nothing I can do about that since the school determines the reading material for a class. However, if there is anyone out there who is thinking about buying this book to improve their "interviewing" skills, either search for another book... or be prepared to eat that cookie one crumb at a time.

Good content suffers from poorly executed Kindle version

I like the content. It doesn't attempt to be exhaustive, but offers a guided tour through the language. I'm using this as a refresher from the last time I tried to learn Scala, and I'm happy with the amount of detail. It's not as complete as some other books.

Reading this on Kindle suffers from a number of problems. The code snippets are poorly formatted. There's a link to an image at the back of the book, but navigating back to the original location is hard. I can't access the table of contents in Kindle Cloud Reader, making navigation hard. Copy and paste appends a silly copyright notice.

I'm happy I bought the book, but I wish I had bought the PDF version instead.
